By Staff

Margaret Thatcher
The life of the 'Iron lady', Margaret Thatcher will now be caught on the silver screen. The former PM of United kingdom will be played by Lindsay Duncan and is all set to be the next major BBC drama.

The programme will showcase Margret Thatcher's struggle to retain her power over the nation while various secret conspiring plots close around her. As reported by Daily Express, it is an "intimate portrayal of a woman on the brink of ruin".

Margaret Thatcher was the first lady to run a major political party in the UK and was re-elected for a an unprecedented third term. However she was forced into resignation when the members of her Conservative party deserted her during the second ballot.

The withdrawal of support was described as 'treachery with a smile on its face' in Margaret Thatcher's own words." It was an extremely dramatic event", said John Whittingdale, the MP for Maldon and East Chelmsford, the then young political secretary of Lady Thatcher.

"Her fall was sudden and unexpected. I still believe she would have won the second ballot but she would have been damaged, I know she had expected to win the first ballot easily. She had been assured of that on a daily basis. There was a terrible miscalculation by her campaign team. At the time she was preoccupied with international events." AGENCIES
