Jackie Chan Opens Science Education Centre

Washington: Action hero Jackie Chan has opened a science education centre at an Australian cancer research clinic, as a tribute to his late parents.

The Rush Hour star's father Charlie, who died of prostate cancer in a Hong Kong hospital last month, spent over 40 years of his life in Australia.

The actor joined Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd on Sunday to officially open the Jackie Chan Science Centre at the Australian National University.

"My father passed away last week. So it is about time I did something for Canberra to remember my parents. I really thank you Australia and Canberra for taking care of my parents for 46 years," Contactmusic quoted Chan as saying. Officials at the Australian National University refused to disclose how much donation they received from Chan. A spokesman for the university, however, said that the monetary gift was "substantial".
