Indian Students In beer, coriander, rajkot, turmeric Invent Eco-Friendly Ink

By Staff

beer, coriander, rajkot, turmeric, : Two class IX students Pooja Dholakia and Riddhi, from beer, coriander, rajkot, turmeric's S.G. Dholakia School, have come up with innovative and eco-friendly ink in six colours from entirely unusual recourses like fruits and vegetables.

The students said that it all began when Pooja happened saw some young kids in her school placing the sketch pens in their mouth and accidentally licking the ink. This brought to their notice the harmful effects of petrochemical-based ink on the health of children.

They have developed the ink by crushing beet roots, turmeric and coriander and other vegetables. As a part of the experiment conducted over six months, the ink extract from fruits and vegetables was extensively tested for retention of colour on paper as well as cloth.

They exhibited their work at the recent National Science Fair organised by the Ministry of Science and Technology, CII and Intel at Pune. Their project won the first prize, from among 1,400 entries. The two girls will exhibit their invention, along with students of 40 other countries, at Atlanta, USA in March 2008
