Chaos Nasha Continues To Enthrall Students

By Staff

Crowds continued to revel in the magic that Chaos-Nasha, the annual cultural festival of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad has woven around in the red-brick campus. The day saw a plethora of events, heightened competition and loads of creativity at work. Fine arts centric events like Rangeela Nasha (Rangoli-making) and Hue & Tee (T-shirt designing Contest) saw an unexpectedly high turnout with participants scurrying to register at the last moment. A total of 41 teams made “rangolis" based on their interpretation of “Navaras" or “Nine Emotions". A team from IIT, Bombay was adjudged the best. Similarly, Hue & Tee saw 48 teams trying to design T-shirts on the theme – Eternity with an IIMA team winning the contest.

Chaos Nasha also proved that events like Management Games and Quiz are certainly not out of context in a cultural festival. The participation for these events defied logic, and the organizers had to conduct the preliminary rounds in two stages! 80 participants relived the times of the “traditional trader" shouting on the trading floor in the Management Game based on stock trading. The Lenovo Computers sponsored Big Quiz had 16 teams being quizzed by quizmaster Gautam Bose in the final round. While NIILM-CMS New Delhi won the former event, IIMA won the latter.

Couples turned out in large numbers for the dance workshop conducted by SPIN academy. Noted theatre personality and a National School of Drama product, Mr Raju Barot taught participants from all over the country the finer aspects in the dramatics workshop. Workshops on pottery and magic also turned out to be huge draws.

Students also enjoyed literary events like English Debate and Dumb Charades, with a total participation from 33 and 9 teams respectively. Both events saw teams from IIMA winning hands down.

In line with their endeavour to champion social causes, IIMA students created a record of sorts by collecting 101 units of blood in a single day in the blood donation camp organized today.

The day that saw so much of activity culminated into a musical evening. The crowd went ecstatic when Pt. Divyang Vakil and four of his professional students: Rushi Vakil, Nishant Mehta, Kaumil Shah and Sahil Patel performed in the event aptly named – Tabla Ecstasy. The Indo Pak Unity concert also saw performance from the Pakistani Band – Fuzon. The crowd went crazy when the band belted out some of its hugely popular numbers. The student community of IIMA loved the sight of their favourite professors swaying to the tunes of the band.

Sandwiched between these two major events was the launch of a special career. Gaurav Dagaonkar, the IIMA alumni from the 2006 batch who dared to be different, released his first music album, aptly titled 'College Days" at LKP. Students, Professors and well wishers from the whole IIMA community were dazzled by 'Dawgy" who left the crowd humming with his impromptu version of the title song. IIMA Director, Prof. Samir Barua chaired this joyous occasion and wished Gaurav good luck in his offbeat endeavour.

In store for the crowds on the third and final day of Chaos are events like Mr and Ms Chaos, Junk Yard Wars, Creative writing, Hindi Debate and Street Play. The evening promises to be a feast to the eyes – with Poi, the fire dance and music to the ears – with KK performing live at the monolithic Louis Kahn Plaza in the IIM campus for the first time.
