The 40-year-old, French songstress, Carla Bruni has been voted 'The Coolest Person Of The Year' in a poll.

According to the survey, nearly one in four Brits said that the wife of President Nicolas Sarkozy was their favourite hip celebrity, reports the Sun.

The French first lady hit headlines this year when she met the Queen and saw a nude portrait of herself fetching 45,000 pounds, that is more than 20 times its expected price at an auction

She has beaten Wuthering Heights singer Kate Bush, who won 14 per cent of votes in the survey of 4,000. Girls Aloud came third in Virgin Media's Alternative Cool List, followed by Beyonce and Led Zeppelin rocker Robert Plant.

Comedian Peter Kay's character Geraldine McQueen landed the sixth spot after releasing X Factor spoof single The Winner's Song last month.
