Namrita Bachchan's Art Exhibition
A collection of Illustrations by the Indian artist and poet Namrita Bachchan, granddaughter of late Hindi poet Harivanshrai.
Bachchan and niece to the actor Amitabh Bachchan, will be exhibited at Indar Pasricha Fine Arts, the deliverance, harivanshrai bachchan, london, namrita bachchan gallery specialising in Indian and South Asian art, from Wednesday 7th - 17th November. This is the fourth exhibition from an exciting new exhibition series from Southern Asia.
All the works in the exhibition were created to illustrate poems in Bachchan's first book of poetry entitled Deliverance, which was published independently in November 2006. The work is a collection of thoughts and observations, such as the poem Leaves of Absence, which was written after Bachchan was profoundly affected by last year's cloudburst in Mumbai.
The majority of illustrations are highly decorative portraits, mythical in nature and reflecting her personal symbolism. They are a riot of colour, texture, and geometric pattern in ink and paint. The poetry, most of which was written when Bachchan returned to Mumbai after living abroad, is illuminated by the paintings. The author describes the integral relationship between these images and her words: "We are conditioned to understand words through images in a certain way. But it is a far more elastic association. It is not that strict and regimented."
Bachchan was born in 1976 in Bombay, and educated in Switzerland and England before pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting and art history at the Rhode Island School of Design. She then completed a degree in Graphic Design at The Parsons School of Design in New York. She has remained in Mumbai since 2003.
The exhibition at Indar Pasricha's Gallery is Bachchan's inaugural solo show in deliverance, harivanshrai bachchan, london, namrita bachchan. She has previously exhibited in select group shows in the US and the UK, and her first solo show in India was in November 2004 at the Museum Gallery in Mumbai. There will be 50 works in this exhibition.
Indar Pasricha has been one of deliverance, harivanshrai bachchan, london, namrita bachchan's leading dealers of Indian and South Asian art since 1978. The gallery has recently launched their new initiative, Indar Pasricha Contemporary Arts, which will highlight contemporary art from Asia, and promote American and European artists influenced by Asian art.
