Dalai lama calls for global peace
Sabroom,South Tripura, Jan 17 (UNI) The Tibetan Buddhist head-- the Dalai Lama today called for world peace and appealed to the underground forces in the North East region to eschew violence as it would not yield any result.
Mr Lama, on his maiden four-day visit to the state, arrived here yesterday.
The noble laureate,however, felt that the government must also look into the reasons as to why the misguided youths were taking up the path of violence.
The Buddhist leader attended the fifth foundation year of the Dhamma Dipa School and laid the foundations for the Buddhist Cultural Complex at the School at Manubankul near here, in the south district today.
Manubankul is dominated mainly by buddhist chakma and mogs tribals.
Speaking to newsmen the religious leader said, Arunachal Pradesh, which is close to China, is very much a part and parcel of India and there can be no doubt about it.
About freedom in religion in China, the exiled Buddhist leader said of late it has improved but restrictions are still imposed on Tibet by the Chinese Government which is a matter of concern.
The Noble prize winner, however, observed that relations between the two populous countries-- India and China, has improved and it is a good sign, the religious leader stated.
The leader flew in here yesterday directly from Agartala by a special IAF helicopter and after staying here for the night, flew back to the state capital where he would participate in several programmes.
The leader will fly back for Kolkata on Friday.
Elaborate security arrangment had been made here and Agartala and he was provided with Z-plus category security by the state government.
