Pune, Jan 29 (UNI) The 1.6 crore visually-challenged community in India will now have access to information of their choice in their mothertongues, with the release of the path-breaking 'Shree-Lipi- Software,' here today.
Shree-Lipi-Braille is a multilingual super fast translation software developed by Modular Info Tech Private Limited, a Pune-based multilingual software packages development company. They have been working in the field of Indian languages software for the last 24 years. The Rotary club bought the first copy of their software in Marathi for a city based NGO.
Joint Managing Director of Modular Infotech, Raghunath Joshi said the software will help in increasing the availability of books to blind persons.
''They will now be in a position to avail of educational text books in Braille for the 10th and 12th standard, college books and other technical and literary books,'' he explained.
Earlier, the President A P J Kalam had released the first Braille copy of his autobiography in Marathi 'Agnipankh'.
''The 175-page book took only about 20 minutes to be translated into Braille, whereas the same task would have taken 50 days for manual translation,'' Joshi pointed out.
Elaborating on his company's product and costs, Joshi explained that data entry, proof-reading and correction in Braille is a very time consuming and tedious process.
''These difficulties will get resolved with the use of Shree-Lipi Braille Software. The software costs Rs 15,000 and another Rs 2.5 lakh for the Braille Embosser,'' he disclosed.
