Noted actress Shabana Azmi has become the first Indian to be felicitated with the Gandhi International Peace Prize to be presented at the House of Lords in the British Parliament on October 26.

Earlier award winners include the Dalai Lama and the 1984 nobel prize winner Desmond Tutu among others.

Ms Azmi has also been invited to deliver the annual memorial lecture at the House of Commons in the British Parliament.

Talking to UNI, Ms Azmi said, ''This is a big, huge honour. I will be speaking on significance and relevance of Gandhian values in today's world which is full of crisis and conflict and how Gandhiji's message of peace is required to bring stability in the world''.

Ms Azmi has earlier won international prize for her work in human rights along with nobel peace prize winner Rigober Tamenchu and Mother Teresa. The award was given by former French President late Francois Mitterand.

This year in January, she won an international prize at the Davos World Economic Summit for artistic contribution for social justice.
