Parnami short-listed for World Mayor title
Jaipur, Oct 30 (UNI) Jaipur's mayor Ashok Parnami has been shortlisted for the title of World Mayor 2006, which will be announced on December 5.
He is the only other Indian to be selected other after Bangalore mayor Mumtaz Begum. Of the 677 mayors in the world, 50 have been shortlisted by the organisers, City Mayors, whose official website is www.citymayors.com The most outstanding mayor is presented with the World Mayor Award each year. This award was started in 2004. According to the organisers, 12 city heads from Asia are competing for the title this year.
Mr Parnami had applied for the title and was shortlisted thereafter. Mr Parnami became mayor in November 2004 and says his aim has been to constantly improve the living conditions of the Pink City, blending the modern with the traditional effortlessly.
