The Black Dog Scottish Trail with Charles
Bangalore November 28,2006: Mr. Charles Maclean, world's foremost Scotch Connoisseur, addressed a select gathering at The Black Dog Scottish Trail, an exclusive series of scotch appreciation sessions, all over India.
The world renowned Scotch expert and writer, was invited to India by Black Dog Scotch Whisky with the purpose of initiating scotch lovers to the finer nuances of Scotch whisky. Mr. Charles Maclean, started the session with reference to various contributions that Scots have given to the world and the best of which he consider as Scotch Whisky.
" One doesn't have to be a connoisseur but should be willing to appreciate the exceptional character and fine qualities of a good scotch. Initially uncertain, it was only after testing for myself the exceptional quality of Black Dog Scotch that I agreed to come to India for these sessions for Indian Scotch lovers", said Mr. Charles MacLean.
At the Black Dog Scottish Trail, Mr. Charles MacLean took the audience through the origins of Scotch Whisky, the various types of Scotch, how Scotch whisky was made and went on to elaborate on the finer aspect like identifying the flavours, the ideal glass to drink Scotch and so on, peppered with interesting anecdotes from his experiences with whiskies the world over. All in a very interactive entertaining fashion that kept the audience clamouring for more.
The Black Dog Scottish Trail commenced in Mumbai followed by Goa, Delhi. It made its way through Kolkata and Hyderabad, finally culminating in Bangalore. " These exclusive scotch sessions are aimed at giving Scotch lovers a glimpse into the 'World of Black Dog' and has been limited to a select audience who would genuinely appreciate such an experience," said Mr. Alok Gupta, Executive Vice-President (Marketing), United Spirits Limited.
Black Dog Scotch Whisky has been a much-loved brand in India for over a century now, and has recently seen a flurry of activity towards mopping up greater shares. The brand upgraded its packaging design earlier this year along with a fresh new brand campaign positioning the brand as " Proudly Old-Fashioned. Since 1883." Black Dog also launched its younger 8-year old version - Black Dog Centenary amidst much fanfare, and it has already notched up close to 20% shares in the states where it has been launched. The Black Dog Deluxe 12 year Old has clocked a healthy 40% growth in the first half of the year.
