New Delhi, De 18 (UNI) The Centre has no proposal to ban the use of handbags across the country, considering the volume of plastics consumed, size of the plastic industry and non-availability of cheaper substitutes.
Giving the information in a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Environment Namo Narain Meena said the Centre was, however, closely watching the emerging situation to identify successful approaches followed by some of the states for the management of plastics.
Cloth, jute and bags made of paper wherever applicable were considered as alternatives to handbags, he said.
