Pet Care Tips For Guinea Pigs
Guinea pigs, the descendants of the wild guinea pigs of South America, are taken as pets by many. In fact, these wild creatures have been domesticated to become acceptable by many. They are one of the cutest and amazing pets your kids can have. But, while they are cute and cuddly, this new companion of your kid requires a hell lot of care.
There are these domestic animals, apart from cats and dogs that need to be treated differently from them. In fact, if you have owned rabbits in the past, you will know what it means to have different kind of care. You will need to recreate an environment very much their own kind to make them feel at home. A comfortable facility that will take care of all their needs is what they are looking out for. These companions of your kids require a different kind of home, distinct kind of food and above all the medical care to keep them secure in your kind of environment. Unlike cats and dogs, these animals take time to adjust to a new atmosphere. So, while you are at it, here are some ways to care for guinea pigs.

A Shelter Away
Huge cages that are definitely created away from the spaces occupied by your cats and dogs is big necessity when concerned with caring for guinea pigs. It should be either be meant for one or two depending on the number of guinea pigs you own. Don’t create a hutch, as guinea pigs cant tolerate low temperatures. Keep the shelters within your homes as guinea pigs are easy attacks for other animals.
Two or More is Good
When you are adopting guinea pigs, the best way to care for them is to adopt more than one at a time. The loneliness in these animals is curbed and you would find that your caring would be reduced to bare minimum. It is a social animal and needs company for better growth. So, bringing them in pairs would help you care better.
Fresh Water
It is always good to ensure guinea pigs receive fresh water at all times. This way they will be cared for and grow properly. Fresh water is the kind of environment they live in. Without fresh water they can die.
Fresh Vegetables
It is very important to give these animals their greens. Fresh vegetables like cabbage and kale are their favorites which provide them with the necessary vitamins. Of the lot of vitamins, they need Vitamin C the most. You should also include fruits like melons and apples in their food. But, make sure you remove the seeds.
Cleanup Help
You should always make sure that your guinea pigs are absolutely clean. Grooming is very important when caring for guinea pigs. Clean their front teeth and tongue while doing the dental cleanup. You should also clean their back claws. Frequent brushing and combing to ensure tangle free and clean hair especially for the long haired breed! Make sure the bedding is clean and you clean their toilet regularly within the cage else it will smell. Clean their food and water bowls regularly to maintain hygiene.
