Common Mistakes Dog Owners Shouldn't Make While Training A Puppy
It goes without saying that training a dog is no walk in the park. Although it might seem that your new friend is listening to your commands, it is important for you develop an intuition that will help you understand your dog's behavior, especially when its actions seem weird and out of sync with expectation. Even a good trainer is bound to make minor errors. But major errors, especially during the training phase, can prove costly, leading the dog to behave inappropriately as it grows older.
Although It is natural for dog owners to make mistakes, It is important for them to realize certain mistakes and not commit them in the interest of themselves and their dog. Here are some common mistakes dog owners make. Trying to avert these mistakes while training your dog will help establish a splendid relationship with your pet.
1. Commands being repeated:
This happens especially in the case of new owners. A common command such as sit can be complicated indeed. If the right technique and tone isn't used, the pet will not respond appropriately, forcing the owner to repeat his commands. After maybe say the fifth or sixth time, the dog sits. This kind of staling will stay on even when the dog grows up, needing you to command it at least five times before it listens. It is imperative that there aren't any distractions and the right technique is employed when teaching a dog to respond to commands.
2. Length of Training Sessions:
It is important that your training sessions do not last too short or too long. If your sessions are too long, you can figure it out by the reaction of your dog. Stop a training session once you feel your dog is responding considerably well. It will take a few sessions before your dog perfects responding to a particular command.
3. Making your dog respond to commands in different environments:
If you command your dog to do something, maybe just in your presence, ensure that you train it to respond in different environments as well- probably in the presence of family or friends. In that way, it will learn to respond to a particular command irrespective of the place.
4. Keep a check on your emotion:
This is another important thing dog owners need to keep in mind. Training your dog anger or frustration will leave a negative impact on your pet. Remember to keep your emotions in check and approach training your dog with a calm mindset.
5. Inconsistency in training:
A very important point for dog owners to keep in mind while training a dog. Training has to be consistent and at fixed time intervals. An inconsistency will result in your dog disobeying your commands. Being strict during the training period is extremely essential.
