The upright tail - If your pet dog stands with its tail straight and upright it shows that he is confident and assertive. This dog tail position could also mean that he is highly excited.

In tail level - Notice your pet dogs tail if it is in level with body. If so, this means that he is in a relaxed mode. It shows that he is feeling friendly and also secured with its tail neutral or slightly lower than the body.

In between legs - This is a common sight in dogs, especially street dogs who get into a fight. The tail in between the legs means that your dog is scared, going through a form of anxiety. During this stage your pet dog wants to look for reassurance and wants to be protected by you.

Fierce wag - If your pet dog's tail is wagging with all its might, something is up. This only means that he is up to some sort of mischief. This movement of the tail also means that he is in a troublesome mood.

Slight wag - When his tail moves slightly in a two n fro position it only shows that he wants you to acknowledge his presence.

Broad wag - This is yet another friendly wag. Notice if the tail drags the movement of its hips too. This type of dog wag indicates that your pet is happy.

Dominant wag - This type of dog wag is commonly found in male dogs to ascertain their presence in front of other dogs. See if your pet dogs is hoisting a stiff tail high up in the air and then swinging it back and forth at a quick and steady pace.
