Monsoon 2023: 6 Effective Remedies To Keep Your Home Insects-Free In Rainy Season
Monsoon is one happy season that spread hope, and joy, and fulfils our basic necessity called 'water'. But, the humid climate in the rainy season is also responsible for the growth of bacteria, fungi, and insects.
The air in the rainy season contains high moisture levels and any stagnant water can be the breeding ground for insects like mosquitoes that often lead to spreading diseases like dengue, malaria, and chikungunya. That's why it is crucial to prevent these unwanted pests from entering your space! Here are some effective remedies to stop the entry of insects into your home:

Pay attention to Entrances and Outdoors
Check for any cracks or gaps in exterior walls that can feature on doors or pipelines. Add mesh wire screens on the windows and doors to stop fleas and mosquitoes from entering your home. Make sure your home has tight-closing entrances by sealing the vents, chimneys, pipes, and roof shingles.
Clean the Floors With Disinfectants
During monsoons, cockroaches and leaches are most likely to be found in wet or moisture-laden corners i.e.sink, bathrooms, toilets, etc. These insects carry germs which can get transferred to food items too. Make sure to clean the floors with quality disinfectant and keep the floor dry!
Clear Out the Stagnant Water
Mosquitoes thrive and breed easily in stagnant water and can spread diseases. That's why it is essential to keep the buckets, drums, and water tanks clean and always covered with a lid. Make sure there is no stagnant water in planter pots, flower vases, coolers, and pet dishes. Ensure to replace the water in buckets and containers regularly.

Let Plants Be the Rescue Factor
Add plants that contain insect-repellent properties, both indoors and outdoors. You can select commonly found plants like basil, aloe vera, lavender, lemongrass, citronella, catnip, and rosemary. Make sure to maintain them well and avoid overwatering them in monsoons as plants kept outdoors get exposed to rainwater organically!
Keep the Home Clutter-Free
A cluttered home is synonymous with a pest and insect abode. Get rid of the usual cluttered objects like old cardboard boxes, newspapers, broken utensils, torn clothes, etc. You can give these objects for reuse or recycling purposes. Also, make sure to keep the garbage bin closed and dispose of the trash regularly.
Use of Natural Oils
Natural oils like neem oil, eucalyptus oil, and lavender oil make an effective natural insect-repellent solution. Their strong odour draws the bugs and insects away. You can spray these oils in the room or apply them to your skin as well. You can also sprinkle some cinnamon powder in all corners of the home to get rid of parasites. Lighting a camphor in the room is also effective to keep the room from smelling fresh and keeping the bugs at bay!
