There are few fabrics that can only be dry cleaned. Some of the outfits are labeled 'Dry Clean' as it is best not to wash them with your hands or washing machine. However, frequent visits to the dry cleaner can be quite expensive. So, it is better to try some dry cleaning at home.
You can always dry clean not so stained and heavily embroidered clothes in your washing machine. For example, you can wash your thread embroidered cushion cover in low spin and tumble dry. However, you cannot dry clean heavily embroidered silk sarees at home. Moreover, heavily stained fabric needs professional cleaning.

Tips To Dry Clean At Home:
- If your washing machine doesn't have an agitator, you can wash cushions covers.
- Dry the cloth on low setting. You can also dry canvas sneaker in the dryer to make the down fluffy and avoid shrinking.
- If you are washing curtains, prefer air-only option in the washing machine. Set for about 10 minutes. Take the curtains out and then hang them with the help of a hanger so that they do not get wrinkled.
- One of the tips to dry clean at home is, remove the clothes from the dryer right away, shake them and hang immediately. This will prevent wrinkling and water retention.
- Not all woolen clothes are dry cleaned. If the label doesn't read 'Dry Clean Only', you can wash them in cold water and low spin. Tumble dry on low so that the fabric doesn't get harmed.
- Some of the cotton outfits can be laundered not dry cleaned. Ask your dry cleaner and get sure to save money on dry cleaning.
- Polyester and nylon can also be hand washed. However, silk is a fabric that will always hang dry.
- Do not dry clean leather and suede at home. It is best to hand over these fabrics to the professional dry cleaners.
- If a sticky paper has got stuck to your cloth, rub with a rubber. It will remove the stickiness. Do not be harsh if the fabric is light.
- If your white cloth is turning yellow, try this tip to dry clean at home. Soak it in lemon or baking soda solution. Rinse with cold water.
