Sofas become dirty very easily as it is used for a regular basis. Also the cleaning is very difficult which is why, maintaining sofa covers and cushions can be challenging. Here are few tips to clean and maintain sofa covers and cushions at home.

1. Before washing sofa covers at home, read the instructions given on the material label of both the sofa and cushion covers. For eg, few fabric materials are not meant to wash in hot water as it spoils the quality.

2. Take a small piece of the sofa cover which is hidden to experiment. Apply some detergent solution and clean it with water. Let it dry. See if the natural color of the sofa cover is maintained after washing or not.

3. Soak the sofa covers in normal soap water for 30-60 minutes. You can also soak it in water only.

4. If you have soaked in water then add detergent powder and soak it for 20-30 minutes.

5. Wash it in the washing machine. If you plan to clean sofa cover with hands then avoid brushing the cover. This spoils the fabric.

6. Iron the sofa cover after it is dry. This helps remove dirt and bacteria whilst keeping the glow. Before you iron, check the label to see if ironing will not affect the fabric.

7. If the sofa cover is difficult to wash, you can use upholstery shampoo on the stains to clean sofa covers. Spray some shampoo in a cotton cloth piece and rub it on the sofa cover stain to remove it completely. Use this method to clean cushion covers.

8. To clean sofa covers, you can use vacuum cleaner or a soft brush to sweep off the dirt. This should be done on a regular basis to maintain and keep the sofa cover clean.
