Beautiful Fountains For Your Garden

By Staff

Fountains not only add a beautiful visual accent to an outdoor space, they also create a soothing sound that refresh your minds. With a fountain as its centerpiece, your garden will become a wonderful secluded retreat from the hectic outside world. It is easy to make a fountain in your garden if you strain a bit to collect the required materials and also to build it. There are ready to use fountains available in shops but making a fountain of your own will be fun creative.

Adding a fountain to your garden can not only relaxing, but also an invitation to

birds and butterflies to visit you. The sounds of water running and sprinkling can be very relaxing to listen to, and the birds will enjoy the drink and a bath. The presence of water will increase the humidity in your garden and also will make your plants healthy and greenish.

Making your own fountain has been made easy by fountain kits available at shops. All you will need is a fountain pump, some tubing and small finishing items like rocks and water plants. Before beginning your work, make sure that you have the following elements such as a "bottom" where the pump will be located and the water returns. This can be a large pot, an urn etc... you can either create a free fall fountain or the common water lift fountains. To make a free fall fountain you need to pump water to a specific height and then allow it to fall freely to the 'bottom'. In a lifting fountain, water is shot up through a jet and is allow to fall back to the bottom.

Before planning the fountain, make sure that you have access to electricity so that you can power your pump. You will also need to purchase a very small recirculating pump. Once all the materials are brought into the site you can start your work. First of all, select a suitable location and make the bottom of the fountain. You can either make a pond or make a structure with pond like bottom where you can store water. Once the water container is ready, then install the pump and the water jet pipe in it. If it is a waterproof pump you can place it in the pond itself. Now add some rocks or broken brick around and under the pump to give a natural look to the pond and also to hide the pump. Now connect the sucking and spraying pipes to the pump. Now the mechanical section of your fountain is completed.

Few beautification works will add to the natural look and feel of your fountain. Decorate the edges of the pond or container with creepers or other plants. You can place water plants in the pond. Make sure that water falls into your pond itself not to the outer garden. This will help you to reduce the amount of water used. Also be sure to keep your pond filled with water. The water will evaporate, and if the water level gets too low, you can burn up your pump. Several interesting rocks can be used to adorn the fountain premises.
