8 Decor Hacks To Make Your Small Living Room Look Bigger
Most city apartment homes have small living rooms and it can get super confusing and sometimes frustrating to accommodate everything in a compact space. Now, the living room is a prime space or area in a home that needs to be given design and decor attention.
And one of the common dilemmas is - how can I make my small living room feel bigger? If you too have this space size woes then let us guide you over the 'space' transformation journey:

Keep Things Simple
Don't let the small space dampen your spirit and joy of decorating. Since the living room is the focused zone in the entire home, you may want to add everything under the sun in the same. But it is advisable to add only the essentials like furniture, lights, soft furnishings, electronics, and decor objects in numbers. Aim for achieving a simple and sorted look!
Free the Floor
Always follow the room layout before adding anything to the living room. The furniture placement, in particular, should be such that it allows for easy manoeuvring around the room. Make sure that even after adding essential furniture objects, floor light, or maybe a planter; there is enough open space in the living room.
Go for Lighter Hues
Pick a softer colour palette to define your small living room. Use pastels or neutral hues like white, off-white, beige, grey, and other subtle tones for walls, flooring, materials, soft furnishings etc. Such hues help add a spacious look and also add a rich, sophisticated outlook in the living room.
Use Patterns and Textures Cleverly
It is the patterns and textures that add cosiness to a home. Soft furnishings like accent cushions, throw, area rug, curtains, etc featuring attractive patterns and textures can create an inviting and lived-in look. Make sure to choose softer hues that allow for prints and textures to be more visible!
Create Vertical Decor
Use the vertical space i.e.walls to store or display objects of your choice. Add functional shelves to display books, photo frames, mini plants, etc to beautify walls. It will help you free up the floor space and keep the small living room feel clean, open, and spacious!

Add Glass or a Mirror For the Illusion of Space
Glass as a see-through material appears minimal and reflective by design. Include glass furniture pieces like a TV unit, coffee table, side console, etc that appears trendy and adds to the illusion of more space. Another great decor hack is to add decorative mirrors on the wall to reflect more light and make the space feel larger. Ideally, place it opposite a window to maximize the light.
Lay a Large Area Rug
Rugs add warmth and layering in any room and a living room is no exception either. Select a large size area rug to define the small living room area. Opt for a rug which can accommodate the prime furniture pieces i.e. couch, accent chairs, coffee table, etc on it or at least the front legs of the same. Area rug binds the space together and contributes to adding texture and colour as well!
Create a Gallery Wall
Every living room needs a focal point. You can create a beautiful gallery wall behind the prime seating or on a side wall. Add attractive wall art, photo prints, wall sculptures, wall masks, curios, vintage posters, etc on the chosen wall. This way you can divert the visitor's attention from the compact living space to appreciating the decor in the living room space!
