Abhishek Sharma Hospitalised Amid T20 World Cup: Understanding Stomach Infection Symptoms And Treatment
Abhishek Sharma Hospitalised During T20 World Cup With Stomach Infection: Symptoms, Prevention And What You Should KnowAbhishek Sharma has been admitted to a hospital in Delhi due to a stomach infection. Multiple reports, citing PTI and BCCI sources, confirm that he has been under medical supervision since Monday, 10 February 2026. He has reportedly been in the hospital for the past two days. Doctors are running tests to assess the severity of the infection, and there's no confirmed discharge timeline yet.
This didn't come out of nowhere. Reports say Abhishek had been dealing with stomach discomfort even before India's opening T20 World Cup game against the USA. He didn't participate fully in that match and also skipped a training session ahead of the next fixture - clear signs that something wasn't right.
Will Abhishek Sharma Miss The Next Match?
As of now, his availability for India's 12 February clash against Namibia in Delhi is uncertain.
Team management is hopeful he may recover in time for the high-profile match against Pakistan on 15 February in Colombo, but there is no official confirmation yet. In tournaments like these, recovery timelines can shift quickly depending on medical advice.
For a player who has become central to India's aggressive T20 approach, even a short absence can affect combinations.

Who Is Abhishek Sharma?
If you've followed India's recent T20 setup, you already know the impact he brings.
Born on 4 September 2000 in Amritsar, Punjab, Abhishek is a left-handed opening batter and a left-arm orthodox spinner. He represents Punjab in domestic cricket and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.
He first grabbed attention at the Under-19 level, captaining India in the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup and later being part of the 2018 Under-19 World Cup squad. From there, the progression was steady.
He made his IPL debut in 2018 at just 17 and later became a core part of Sunrisers Hyderabad's batting unit. In recent seasons, he has built a reputation as one of the most aggressive openers in T20 cricket, known for fast starts and big hitting in the powerplay.
His T20I debut came in 2024, and he quickly cemented his spot at the top of the order. Fearless strokeplay, high strike rate, and the ability to clear boundaries consistently - that's what defines his game. At just 25, he is already seen as a long-term white-ball asset for India.
What Is A Stomach Infection?
Most stomach infections, often referred to as gastroenteritis, are caused by viruses, bacteria, or contaminated food and water. They can range from mild discomfort to severe dehydration if not treated properly.
Common Symptoms Of Stomach Infection
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea
- Abdominal cramps
- Fever (sometimes)
- Weakness and dehydration
If symptoms persist beyond a couple of days, or if there is severe pain, high fever, or signs of dehydration (dry mouth, dizziness, low urine output), medical attention is important.
What To Do If You Have A Stomach Infection
If you're dealing with one, the basics matter more than anything:
1. Hydrate consistently
ORS (oral rehydration solution), coconut water, clear soups, and plain water help replace lost fluids.
2. Rest
Your body needs energy to fight the infection.
3. Eat light
Simple foods like rice, bananas, toast, curd (if tolerated), and boiled potatoes are easier to digest. Avoid oily, spicy, and heavy meals.
4. Avoid self-medication
Don't start antibiotics unless prescribed. Many stomach infections are viral and resolve on their own.
5. Monitor symptoms
If vomiting or diarrhoea is excessive, or symptoms last more than 48-72 hours, consult a doctor.
Prevention Tips
- Wash hands thoroughly before eating
- Drink clean, filtered or boiled water
- Avoid undercooked food
- Be cautious with street food during tournaments or travel
- Store food properly
For athletes who travel constantly, exposure risk is higher which makes prevention even more important.
Right now, the priority is Abhishek Sharma's recovery. A stomach infection may sound minor, but during an international tournament, even a short health setback can disrupt preparation and rhythm.
For fans, it showcases that players are human. For everyone else, it's a nudge to take stomach infections seriously - hydrate, rest, and seek medical care when needed.
Whether he returns for the next match or takes a few more days to recover, the focus remains simple: health first, cricket later.
