The term gaudy, according to the dictionary is 'extravagantly bright or showy, typically so as to be tasteless.' It's an adjective that's associated with everything garish, lurid, loud, over-bright, glaring, harsh, violent, flashy, showy, glittering, brassy, ostentatious! Crazy, isn't it? Well, did you know that the term 'gaudy' is derived from a person's name? Yes, it's derived from Antoni GaudÍ i Cornet.

Antoni Gaudi was a Spanish Catalan architect from Reus and the best known practitioner of Catalan Modernism. GaudÍ's works reflect an individualized and distinctive style. Most are located in Barcelona, including his magnum opus, the Sagrada FamÍlia. His designs are super loud and can't be missed! Several of GaudÍ's works have been granted World Heritage status by UNESCO, would you believe it?
