Salman Khan’s Fashion Influence Takes Centre Stage at RSS Centenary

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan was among the dignitaries present at the celebration of the 100-year history of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's (RSS), which took the form of a two-day lecture series titled 100 Years of Sangh Journey: New Horizons held at the Nehru Centre Auditorium in Worli, Mumbai.

Alongside other prominent figures such as Ranbir Kapoor, Salman's presence drew attention not only from the audience but also from media covering the event, marking a moment where entertainment and cultural discourse intersected with a significant ideological celebration.

During his address, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat referenced Salman Khan's popularity - particularly his influence on fashion among young people. Bhagwat pointed out that college students often emulate the actor's style, even when they can't explain why, saying, "What Salman Khan wears, college students do the same. Why do they do it? 'Because he is wearing it.' Why is he wearing it? 'I don't know.'"

He used this observation to make a broader point: just as celebrities can shape trends through sheer influence, so too can positive values and constructive behaviours become 'fashionable' and widely adopted across society if people see them modelled consistently.

"Fashion drives influence in every matter, good or bad," Bhagwat said, highlighting that those who create trends in society can be seen as trusted and respected figures.

Salman's Reaction Goes Viral

The footage of the occasion captured Salman listening carefully to the comments delivered by Bhagwat, which saw the former smile as the chief referenced Salman's influence.

It also reiterated the magnitude of Salman's presence in popular culture, as many online responses mentioned his signature styles of the past, including his stint as an action hero and his popularity as a fitness and fashion icon to young audiences.

Salman Khan was not the only Bollywood representative at the RSS centenary. Other celebrities like Ranbir Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Karan Johar, Ananya Panday, Vicky Kaushal, and many more, as can be seen, were a part of this function, thus indicating a special tie-up between Bollywood personalities and this landmark function of the RSS.

Their presence at what traditionally remains a socio-ideological event marks the increased interplay between cultural, entertainment, and discourse platforms in the public sphere.

Why the Fashion Reference Resonated

What made Bhagwat's reference striking was not the mere invocation of celebrity style but the way he linked it up with social influence and values.

By saying that college students follow Salman's fashion "because he is wearing it," Bhagwat underlined how behavioural cues-whether intended or not-can ripple through youth culture. He indicated that if positive values and good behaviours were showcased with similar visibility and consistency, they too can become widespread norms.

It had, in other words, little to do with clothes but served as a metaphor for the dissemination of ideas and values in society when people look to charismatic, trusted figures.

Looking Ahead

While celebrity appearances at socio-cultural events often raise a storm of discussion, the moment that stole the limelight was the unplanned connection between popular culture and its effect on society, envisioned through a fashion perspective. Agree or disagree with the far-reaching implications, the conversation mirrors how cultural icons, such as Salman Khan, continue to shape youth perception beyond their respective fields of operations.
