European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, in a way, made a silent declaration during the 77th Republic Day celebrations on Kartavya Path in New Delhi. Attending the parade as one of the Chief Guests, she chose a Banarasi brocade bandhgala, gracefully blending Indian tradition with a modern, global style.

Von Der Leyen chose a maroon and gold Banarasi silk brocade bandhgala along with an off-white color pant. Additionally, her jacket was adorned by the intricacies of zari work and floral patterns, which showed the beauty of traditional Banarasi-style suits, which has remained a cherished trend for various generations.
