Chithirai Kani Special: Sweet Pumpkin Gravy Recipe

This special Chithirai Kani dish is made to celebrate this beautiful New Year. The special dish is made with sweet pumpkin, coconut and green chillies which will add a specific taste to the recipe.
Moreover, the coconut too will add a beautiful aroma to the dish and thus will taste better with white rice or rotis.
To prepare this Chithirai Kani dish, sweet pumpkin gravy, here is the recipe, take a look:

Cooking Time: 18 minutes

All You Need
- Sweet pumpkin - 1/4 (chopped into pieces)
- Coconut - 1/2 ( grated)
- Green chillies - 2 (sliced)
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
- Gur - A small piece (ground into powder)
- Salt - to taste
For The Seasoning
- Oil - 1 tbsp
- Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
- Urad dhal - 1 tsp
- Curry leaves - few
Procedure
- You first need to pressure cook the pumpkin along with salt, gur and turmeric powder. When done, leave aside.
- Now mash the pumpkin along with the other ingredients which is present in the cooker. Don't mash it too much.
- Now to the cooker, add the grated coconut and the sliced green chillies.
- Mix these contents well with the pumpkin.
- In a pan, heat oil and when it is hot, drop in the mustard seeds and allow it to crack. Now add in the urad dal, curry leaves. Saute until they turn brown.
- Add the pumpkin coconut mixture into kadai and bring it to boil.
Nutrition Tip
Pumpkin is good for health. It helps to keep the body cool in summer.
Tip
Don't cook the pumpkin with too much of oil.
