An extremely dry scalp can be irritating and to live with such a dry head becomes highly annoying.
Scalp contains sebum, natural oil, etc., which help keep the scalp moisturised and hydrated all the time; but if the amount of sebum on the scalp dries or runs out, it makes your scalp feel dry and parched.
Dry scalp generally leads to dandruff and itchiness of the scalp. Some of the causes of dry scalp are environmental pollution, chemical-based hair products, stress, exposure to heat and drinking inadequate amount of water.
Here are some tips to treat extremely dry and parched scalp, which you've got to read. Check it out!
1. Oil
Giving oil treatments to your scalp can help to keep it hydrated and moisturised all the time. Oil treatment works wonders over parched scalp and one important oil that can help to retain moisture and treat dehydration is coconut oil. Take some coconut oil and heat it for some time. Then, massage your scalp with the hot coconut oil and keep it overnight. Wash it off with a mild shampoo the next day.

2. Egg-Yogurt Treatment
Trying the egg-yogurt treatment can help to relieve dry scalp and maintain hydration level on the scalp. Mix one egg with four to five spoons of yogurt and mix it well. If needed, add some honey and coconut oil to it. Blend all the ingredients together and massage your scalp with this solution. Repeat using this mask twice or thrice in a day to enjoy healthy scalp.

3. Avoid Using Styling Machines & Products
One major reason behind dry and arid scalp is using styling machines and products. Styling products, which have a lot of aroma and fragrance in them generally have a high amount of chemicals, thus leading to dry scalp.
Using gels or mousse can dry out the scalp and lead to itchiness. Avoid using styling machines, as the heat produced from these machines can soak up the oil from the scalp, leaving it dry.

4. Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil contains antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, which help to kill the bacteria on the scalp. It also helps to soothe the scalp and avoid over production of skin cells that lead to flakes on the skin. Take some tea tree oil and dilute it with some carrier oil. Now, massage your scalp and leave it overnight.

5. Honey With Olive Oil
Honey and olive oil contain anti-inflammatory agents and antioxidants that help to keep dryness off the scalp. It helps to maintain the sebum on the scalp, thus avoiding the occurrence of white flakes on the scalp. Take some olive oil and mix it with honey. Now, apply this mixture on your scalp and allow it to sit for 15 minutes. Wait for some time and wash with a mild shampoo.

6. Essential Oils
You should use essential oils to get rid of the dry and flaky scalp. For example, lemongrass essential oil works great on the extremely dry scalp. You can choose any essential oil according to the scalp and hair type. Combine essential oil with any carrier oil and use the hot oil treatment. Apart from this, lavender essential oil is also great to be used on the scalp to flush out the dirt and maintain moisture.

7. Aloe Vera Gel
Aloe vera gel helps to moisturise the scalp and also prevent dryness. Take some aloe vera gel and massage your scalp with this gel. Allow it to sit for some time and wash it off with cold water later. If you are using ready-made aloe vera juice to apply it on the scalp, make sure that the juice does not contain added sugar in it.

8. Protect Your Hair
Protect your hair from the harmful rays of the sun, as excessive heat can soak the oil present on the scalp, thus leading to dry scalp. Extreme temperature, heat and pollution can create havoc on the hair and hence you should protect your hair during the peak hours. Make sure you protect your hair by using a scarf or wearing a hat.

9. Proper Diet
Having a balanced and proper diet can help keep your skin and scalp hydrated. Having proper and healthy diet makes sure that the body uses enough amount of zinc, potassium, calcium and omega-3 fatty acids.

10. Drink Adequate Amount Of Water
You should drink lots of water to avoid your scalp from becoming dry. Drinking plenty of water helps to hydrate your skin and hair without any effort at all. Generally, a person should drink 8-10 glasses of water every day, so always try to drink a lot of water whenever possible.
