Home Remedies For Treating Grey Hair

By Tara Hari

Greying of hair is caused due to the decrease in the melanin pigment of the hair. This takes place as a person ages, although premature greying is also rampant these days. It is common for people under 35 or even 30 to have grey hair. There are certain cells in the hair follicles called melanocytes. They produce a pigment which provides natural colour to the hair.

The natural colour of the hair is lost when these melanocytes stop the production of these pigments. As grey hair is one of the most terrifying nightmares of all women, let us look at some home remedies that can help combat grey hair.

Home Remedies For Treating Grey Hair

Hair Pack
A hair pack made of amla and henna can be made to cover up the grey hair. Make a paste of henna and add 3 tablespoons of amla to the paste. This pack can be applied along the length of the hair and left on until it dries. You can wash it off with a mild shampoo to reveal naturally coloured, healthy hair.

Black Tea
For premature greying, black tea is a miracle remedy. Take a pan of water and boil 2 teaspoons of tea leaves in it. Cool the solution and apply it to your hair. Make sure you do not use a shampoo while rinsing the solution off your hair. This home remedy will cover up your grey hair nicely.

Curry Leaves
Curry leaves can be incorporated into your regular diet to naturally combat premature greying. They strengthen the hair roots and ensure that new roots are healthier and have normal pigmentation. Curry leaves can be consumed in the form of chutney or mixed in buttermilk.

Hair Oil
You can boil coconut oil with curry leaves and amla to make an excellent hair oil. Regular and diligent application of this oil will ensure strong, healthy hair that retains its original colour. This hair oil can be used regularly to prevent the onset of greying as well.

Amaranth Juice
An excellent way to make the hair retain its colour and prevent premature greying is by applying liberal amounts of Amaranth juice to your hair and scalp. This vegetable is also beneficial for accelerating the growth of your hair and keeping it soft and shiny.

Apply Amla
Amla or Indian Gooseberry is famous as a hair tonic which keeps the hair dark and shiny. It is known to enrich hair growth and hair pigmentation. You can massage your hair with amla juice mixed with almond oil to keep the original colour of your hair. Applying Amla to your hair from a young age will prevent premature greying.

Grey hair is caused by genetics, natural chemical changes and environmental pollution. These home remedies can successfully hamper and reverse grey hair.
