Why Did PM Modi Gift Sahasra Chandra Darshan To Joe Biden: How Is It Related To Age?
PM Narendra Modi is currently on a state visit to the US and his gift to US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden is making headlines due to its religious significance. When he reached the White House, Biden welcomed him and both of them exchanged gifts.
PM Modi presented the first edition of the translation book of English poet WB Yeats to Joe Biden. Apart from this, PM Modi also gave another gift, which was very special and had a special connection with the age of US President Joe Biden.

All the gifts were brought in a sandalwood box which has been handmade by a master craftsman from Jaipur, Rajasthan. For this, the sandalwood was sourced from Mysore, Karnataka which has intricately carved flora and fauna patterns and the box had 10 boxes inside.
This box is used as Bhoodan. Along with it an idol of Lord Ganesha was presented, and a 24-karat gold coin and a silver coin have also been given in the form of a donation. Let us know more about Sahasra Chandra Darshan and its significance.
What Is 'Sahasra Chandra Darshan'?
The term 'Sahasra' means 'thousand' and 'Chandra Darshanam' means 'seeing the moon'. Sahasra Purna Chandrodayam (or Sahasra Chandra Darshan) is the celebration of a person's 1000th full moon in his or her life, as a special occasion. It is to provide mental and physical strength in his/her old age and to encourage him/her to pursue spiritual liberation from all problems in this life.
US President Joe Biden was born on 20 November 1942 and he is about to complete 80 years and 8 months. It means that the person who crosses this age sees one thousand full moons. Significantly, there are 12 full moons in a year and two full moon dates are more in every year. Therefore, in Hinduism, it is considered a very important and auspicious gift in Hinduism.
What Is Drishta Sahastra Chandra Daan?
In Hinduism, a lot of importance has been given to donations and charitable works. There is a tradition of donating ten different things on the special occasion of Sahastra full moonrise- Gaudan, Bhoodan, Tildan, Hiranyadan (gold), Ajaydan (ghee), Dhanyadan (crop), Vastradan (clothes), Guddan, Roupyadan (silver) and Lavandan (salt).
Sesame seeds were brought from Tamil Nadu and instead of cow donation, PM Modi has given a coconut made of silver. Also, salt from Gujarat was kept in the box.
