Myth Or Messiah: Who Is Kalki?

"Yada Yada Hi Dharmasya, Glanirva Bhavathi Bharatha,
Abhyuthanam Adharmaysya, Tadatmanam Srijami Aham'.
Praritranaya Sadhunam, Vinashaya Cha Dushkritam
Dharamasansthapnaya Sambhavami Yuge-Yuge."

This famous shloka from the Bhagavad Gita has been a source of hope for many. In this shloka, Lord Krishna reveals His true form to Arjuna during the battle of Kurukshetra and says,

"Whenever there is decay of righteousness O! Bharatha and a rise of unrighteousness, then I shall manifest Myself!"
"For the protection of the good, for the destruction of the wicked and for the establishment of righteousness, I am born in every age."

Here the Lord describes that He is born on this Earth from time to time to relieve the humanity from evil. He takes avatars whenever the evil takes over. The duty of the avatar is to destroy evil and re-establish Dharma. Therefore, Lord Vishnu, the preserver and protector, has a special role here. He re-incarnates on Earth every time there is a turbulence and sets everything in order.

Lord Vishnu is said to take approximately 25 avatars. Some also say there are only ten avatars of Lord Vishnu. These ten avatars are Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Narsimha, Vamana, Parashurama, Rama, Krishna, Buddha and Kalki.

Kalki is the supposed to be the tenth and final avatar of Lord Vishnu who will appear at the end of the Kali Yuga. But according to the scriptures, Kalki will be the 22nd avatar of Lord Vishnu. There are a lot of rumours and myths surrounding the Kalki avatar of Lord Vishnu. There are unanswered questions as to who will be Kalki? Has He been already born or is yet to appear? Will He bring an end to the sufferings of the people on Earth?

According to the Vedic prophecies, as the 10,000 year period of the Golden Age within Kali Yuga comes to a close, the lower modes of material nature will become so strong that people will lose interest in spiritual topics. Everyone will become godless.

The saints and devotees would flee to the mountains and caves. All genuine and saintly persons would disappear from the face of Earth and the the world will fall into the pit of darkness. People would fight with each other and the common citizens would be endangered. There will be constant war and chaos all over. Finally, after 432,000 years from the beginning of the age of Kali, Lord Kalki will appear as the 22nd avatar of God.

Kalki is prophesied to be born in the home of the most eminent Brahmana of Shambhala village, Vishnuyasha. Lord Kalki would be dark complexioned and would possess great energy, intelligence and powers. He would restore peace in the world through His virtues.

Interestingly, even Islam and a few other religions also mention the arrival of Kalki at the most dark times on Earth. He will be a messiah who will protect the humanity from evil and show them the righteous way.

According to the great seer, Nostradamus, a person will be born of the three water signs whose holy day will be Thursday. His name and fame will grow everywhere and He will free the east from trouble. As per the prophecy, the three water signs of Pisces, Cancer and Scorpio can also be interpreted as the three water bodies - the Indian ocean, Arabian sea and the Bay of Bengal.

It also says that the person will celebrate Thursday as His holy day which is in none other major religions than Hinduism. There are also other prophecies by Nostradamus. It mentions that the man will carry a weapon which He will use to strike down the evil. Kalki is said to bear a sword and ride a horse.

Myth Or Messiah: Who Is Kalki?

Only a few years have passed since the beginning of the Kali Yuga. Therefore, it is almost impossible to predict when would the messiah appear in the form of Kalki. Many believe He would appear at the end of the World War III. He would provide relief to the ailing and take mankind towards realising their spiritual self.

With the situation in the present times, where mankind is suffering at its own hands, a messiah would definitely be a sigh of relief. He is the only light of hope for all the suffering.
