5 Types Of Toddler Bad Behaviour To Stop

It is a very common sight to see an ill-behaved toddler in the malls today. We often see toddlers rolling on the floor and howling or hitting their parents in public. Such bad behaviour from toddlers is not only embarrassing for the parents but harmful for the child's future itself. If you ignore bad behaviour from the toddler now, the child will get used to misbehaving. His/her behaviour might be difficult to change after they grow up.

Parents are very lax towards their toddler's behaviour because they believe, toddlers are not old enough to understand rules of propriety. However, you need to draw a line regarding how bad behaviour from your toddler is acceptable.

Here are some types of toddler behaviour that you must not tolerate. You must discipline your toddler if they insist on behaving in the following ways.

Toddler Bad Behaviour

Yelling: Many toddlers yell to get the attention of their parents. But stop it today. Tell your toddler that he or she will be heard only if they maintain a normal volume of talking. Today, the child is yelling at you; tomorrow he or she may yell at your house guests or their teachers!

Crying When They Want Something: It is one thing for the child to cry when he/she is hungry or sleepy, quite another to cry whenever he/she wants a new toy. Many children force their parents to buy toys for them in malls just by crying loudly. If your toddler shows such bad behaviour, make sure he or she doesn't get what they want. Or else, the child will start using crying as a vantage point to get whatever he/she wants.

Hitting: You toddler is old enough to realise that hitting someone is 'bad' according to social norms. Every time your toddler hits you or someone else, correct him/her. If it doesn't work, give the toddler some minor form of punishment to drive the message home.

Swearing: Toddlers pick up words very quickly. It is quite possible for your toddler to have picked up some bad words from other children or from the television. Don't laugh at such bad behaviour from your toddler. Your child will take it as encouragement and start using such words casually. Reprimand the child for swearing even if he/she doesn't know the meaning of the word.

Destructive Behaviour: Kids break toys while playing; its a natural thing. However, if your toddler has the habit of smashing toys or other things just for fun, then it must not be encouraged. Teach the child to build and create, not to destroy things.
