Stop Toddler From Using Bad Words
Toddlers are very keen observers and they catch-up things very quickly. Their acts and habits are formulated from the surroundings they are in. It can be from parents or adults who are with them, from television or other visual media or from friends. If parents are careful enough, they can prevent toddlers from using bad words or profanity.
If you are one among those parents who are looking for some practical ideas to stop your toddler from using bad words, here are some. Try these parenting tips to deal with toddlers using abusive language.
Stop using bad words: Do not use bad words in front of toddlers. Always remember that toddlers consider you as their role model. They will observe, listen and copy all your mannerisms. So, if you want to stop your toddler from using bad words, you should try to be a perfect example for them.
Watch what they watch: Restrict your toddler from watching TV shows or any other media programs which uses abusive languages.Toddlers are at an age which makes them believe what they see and hear. Visual media can make an unpredictably severe impact on your toddler in using bad words.
Know their friends: You should know about your toddler's friends and their mode of talking. If their friends are using bad words, your toddler will be directed to think that it is an acceptable word. Teach your toddler to follow what is right.
Try ignoring it: Reacting and responding each and every time while your toddler use bad words may not work. Be patient and watch whether they forget it after an occasional use. If you have an outburst, they may enjoy your reaction and may repeat it.
Let them know why it is ‘bad': Try to explain your toddler that these are bad words, and should not be used. Explain to your toddler why using bad language is unacceptable in your home and society. Let them understand clearly that talking properly will make them good children.
Use appropriate words: Since language itself is new to your toddler, they may get confused about what is good and what is bad when they constantly hear words used by different people. In your home, use only appropriate words, so that your toddler will understand which one to follow.
Love and perseverance can bring good results in stopping your toddler from using bad words while anger and over-reaction may cause negative results.
