Psittacine Beak & Feather Disease
This is a major viral disease that attacks love birds and spoils their health majorly. It is pretty common in lovebirds. Apart from the lovebirds it is commonly found disease in African Greys too. You would find the lovebirds being endangered by this disease when they are too young or when they are kept in the same place with other birds. This viral infection can make the feather development in lovebirds see abnormal. The beak development is also hampered in this case. You will see that the feathers in birds having contracted this disease become blunt while in some cases it leads to hemorrhage in the shaft.

Pacheco’s Disease
This is yet another viral disease that is found in lovebirds. This can prove to be fatal to the birds. To diagnose this disease, necropsy methods are used. This disease generally affects the liver in these birds and can cause death of the love birds too. It is caused by the presence of herpes virus in the body of the lovebirds. Extensive supportive care is the only means of ensuring that the lovebirds are properly treated and don’t face fatal consequences.

Feather Plucking and Mutilation
Diet given to the lovebirds is very important. You will find that in case unhealthy diet is given to the lovebirds, they tend to become very edgy. They start getting bored due to this edgy behavior induced in them and that might lead them to pluck their own feathers. You will need to give them a bath regularly, else plucking could also mean they are trying to clean themselves. An unhealthy environment leads to such issues.

Proventicular Dilatation Disease
A lot of lovebirds suffer from what’s commonly known as depression. Well it is not surprising to see depressed birds. These depressed birds tend to lose weight majorly as they begin showing signs of depression. You will find undigested food particles when you go to their cage to clean their stool. In case you see them showing such signs, you probably know that it is time to take them to the do to get them checked.
