Ways To Give Apt Names To Your Pets

For pet lovers, their pets are just as dear as their children. Some people may find the idea of pondering over names for pets very silly. But then only an enthusiast who really loves pets knows how important it is. A pet, be it a dog, cat or bird does not come into your life on its own will. You adopt your pet and bring them into your home. In a way, you are like guardians, responsible for the pet's well being.

Just feeding and caring for your pets is not enough. You need to make sure all its social needs are being met. Animals have feelings just like human beings. That is why it is important to choose the right names for your pets. People might take names for dogs seriously. But when it comes to names for cats, birds or fish, they slack away.

Pet Names

Giving your pets suitable names is the right beginning to their training and indoctrination into your family life. Here are some suitable names for pets of different types.

Names For Dogs

There are many different kinds of dog breed and each differs from the other in characteristics. You must give your dog a name based on his/her characteristics. It will be cruel to call a Mastiff, 'Poochi' or 'Tommy'. Similarly, it will be silly call a Poodle as 'Tiger'.

Names For Cats

Pet cat breeds are not as varied as dogs. But yet there are lots of differences in cat breeds too. However, it becomes easier to name cats because their characteristics remain more or less the same. Cat are extremely intelligent and agile creatures. So stop calling them 'Kitty'. Give them intellectual names like 'Eureka', 'Siam' and 'Einstein'.

Names For Birds

Birds are rare pets. Most people do not opt for them because they have to be kept in a cage. But once your bird is attached to you, you may not have to keep it in a cage. Birds can have very interesting names. If they are singing birds you can give them musical names like 'Symphony'. If they are love birds, you can name them after famous lovers like 'Romeo and Juliet'.

Apart from the breeds and the physical characteristics, the gender of your pets also plays a part in naming them. You cannot name your female dog 'Bozo'; you will have to think of feminine name for her. Keep these differences and parallels in mind while you choose names for your pets.
