Dog is a man's best friend, but not always. Sometimes the man's best friend may turn into his enemy. An angry dog may sometimes show behavior traits like jumping around, racing back and forth etc. The angry dog may not be able to control itself and may need your help to calm down. It is definitely a bad news that you are facing an angry dog, however, at the same time there is a good news that dogs communicate.

It is sometimes tough to calm down an angry dog, but it can certainly be done with adequate care. The tip to calm down an angry dog is simple, "Communicate". Communicate to the angry dog with compassion and peaceful intentions. Here are a few things you need to know to slow down your angry dog.

How To Calm An Angry Dog?

Eyes speak
Eyes are one of the main organs which communicate our true feelings. The first and foremost thing you need to do is to calm down an angry dog. Do not look directly in the eye. Turn your face a bit so that you do not face the angry dog. Even in the worst case, make sure you don't turn back and run. It is always safe to move casually and slowly.

Make sure you keep your distance
When you see an angry dog, just keep your distance. It is better to move to the other side of the road if you are walking or jogging. You can also pet the dog with the owner's permission and by approaching it in a friendly way.

Mind your body language
Your body language can do wonders while you face an angry dog. You can calm down an angry dog with proper body language. Your body should be sideways and you slowly move away. Also, keep your hands inside the pocket.

Show some compassion
Being compassionate is one of the best ways to calm down an angry dog. Remember, yelling won't help and will only land you up in trouble. Hence, speak softly with all your love and move away from him.

Give him the needed attention
Your dog may seek some attention from you. Don't fail to give him the attention he needs especially when he is in a bad mood. You can calm down an angry dog by giving him all your attention and you can reinforce the behaviour.

Woo him with his favorite treat
Another way to calm an angry dog is to woo him with his favourite snack. Hold his favourite snack between your fingers and you can see him come running to you. You need not tell him anything, just move the snack slowly towards him and you can see him in full control.

It is easy to calm down an angry dog once you watch him carefully and study his behaviour carefully. Observe his body language to know him better. A good and strong communication will enhance the relationship between your dog and you. When he gains perfect control, he again becomes your best friend.
