How To Minimize Water Usage In Summer?

Water Usage Summer
It is just the beginning of summer and the heat is already on. As the scorching summer pulls on, water scarcity will be rampant. So your usage of water has to be deterred considerably. To save water during summer, you need to apply some very simple home improvement tips. It is not rocket science but a mere change of habits that will suffice.

Some very obvious things that we do in our day to day chores at home can decrease the usage of water. To conserve water in summer, you can try these practices.

Tips To Reduce Usage Of Water In Summers:

1. Switch That Tap Off: Most of the water in your tank is being wasted while you brush your teeth leisurely or scrub your plates leaving the tap on. You must open the tap for water only when you are going to use water. Water is precious, especially in the hot summers when most people do not get 24 hours water supply.

2. Check For Leaks: Most often you use up more water unintentionally because your taps are loose. They keep dripping water even when you have turned them off. Just imagine how much water is being wasted daily because of a leak that can be fixed in 2 minutes! Either shut the tap tightly or get the leak fixed.

3. Low Power Washing Machine: Washing Machines use water in huge amounts. You cannot stop washing your clothes. But you can definitely take the effort to run the washing machine on low powder instead of going for intensive washes for your regular wear.

4. Adjust Water Temperature: It is easy to say that your water usage during taking showers should be curtailed. However, it is not so easy to take shorter showers. What you can do instead is adjust the temperature of the shower properly. If you use too much hot water then you will also have to use equal proportion of cold water to balance it. It is much better to use lukewarm water so that you spend less on the volume.

5. Keep The Drains Clean: Most often more water goes down the drain when it is clogged. We tend to pour down water thinking it will open up. Keep all the drains cleaned up as part of your usual summer cleaning. The kitchen sink in particular needs your attention because you will be doing the dishes here and that takes lots of water.

6. Thaw Without Water: It is our customary practice to drown meat or fish in water to thaw it. There is a simple alternative; you can keep the frozen foods overnight in the fridge instead of the freezer and it will thaw on it's own.

7. Water Rations: To save water in the summers you have ration out portions. For example, wash dishes in a basin full of water instead of doing so under the tap.

Use these home improvement tips to manage your water usage.
