In the hot Indian summers sitting under the cool shade of a tree can seem like a luxury beyond description. It rejuvenates you and allows you to get on with work after some much-needed respite from the burning sun. Those who maintain well-kept gardens on their home front have a variety of shady trees that not only keep the garden cool, but also turns it into a home for different species of birds. This only adds to the beauty and liveliness of the outdoors.

Here are some shady trees, which are popularly spotted in Indian gardens.

Mango Tree: You can find mango trees in a number of Indian homes especially in the Eastern part of the country. People prefer this tree not only for the shade but also for savouring the delicious mango fruit. Children love to tie up swings on the sturdy branches of this tree and spend endless time having fun while enjoying the cool shade and tasting the fruits.

Neem Tree: Neem tree is repeatedly mentioned in our ancient scriptures and in Ayurveda. Every part of this tree comes in some or other use and has antibacterial properties. It is believed that the air passing through the leaves of this plant has the capability to keep your body healthy and free from illness. The shade of an Indian Neem tree can be an ideal place to get some peace from the burning sun and remain disease free. With so much riding on its shade, no wonder this is a crucial addition to an Indian garden.

Banyan Tree: The banyan tree is a slow growing one, but is the ideal shady tree for a summer Indian garden. Kids love to play and hang on the banyan tree. This is still common in villages, so there is no reason that one cannot replicate the experience in their own summer garden.

Laurel Tree: This is another species, which grows slowly but steadily, and turns into an ideal shade-providing tree in your garden. Under this tree you can relax and sit back when spending your time outdoors with friends and family. One finds laurel tree in a coastal landscape. This is a flowering tree, which remains covered with fragrant white flowers during spring. This adds to the beauty and appearance of your garden.

Summer months can be scorching hot and humid in India. Regardless of the climate in your area, cool shade of large trees can restore your disposition and provide an ideal place to spend your time outdoors.
