Sweet n Sour Chicken Recipe For Kids

Sweet n sour chicken is a Chinese recipe that we usually order for kids. Kids love this recipe because it is not too spicy. Children cannot eat spicy Chinese recipes like Manchurian or Chilli chicken. However, they can eat sweet n sour chicken because of its tangy and sweet taste. This chicken curry is not just famous as a kids recipe. Many adults love the tangy taste of sweet n sour chicken.

This dish offers a welcome relief from common flavours like soy or Manchurian. Sweet n sour chicken is a Chinese recipe but it is different. That is why, many people keep this dish on their list of special menu. If you are having a family dinner were you expect lots of kids or a birthday party, then you can definitely consider making sweet n sour chicken.

Sweet n Sour Chicken

Serves: 4
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • Chicken (boneless)- 500 grams
  • Eggs- 2 (beaten)
  • Corn flour- 2tbsp
  • Onion- 1 (diced)
  • Garlic- 6 cloves (crushed)
  • Capsicum- 1 (diced)
  • Pineapple- 100 grams (chopped)
  • Soy sauce- 1tbsp
  • Apple Cider Vinegar- 1tbsp
  • Sugar- 1tsp
  • Pepper- 1/2 tsp
  • Tomato ketchup- 3tbsp
  • Oil- 2tbso
  • Salt- as per taste

Procedure

  1. Season the chicken pieces with salt and pepper. Keep aside for 10 minutes.
  2. Mix the 1tbsp of corn flour with 2tbsp water and 2 eggs. Beat the mixture.
  3. Heat oil in a deep bottomed pan. Dip the chicken pieces in the egg mixture and fry it in the pan.
  4. Lower the flame and saute the chicken piece on both sides for 5 minutes.
  5. Strain the chicken pieces and keep them aside.
  6. Now add sugar into the pan. Then add the onion and garlic. Cook for 2-3 minutes on a medium flame.
  7. Add capsicum and pineapple pieces together. Cook for 2 minutes more on a low flame.
  8. Now drizzle soy sauce and apple cider vinegar. Mix all the ingredients and add salt.
  9. After cooking for 3-4 minutes, add tomato ketchup. Mix it up and cook for another 2 minutes.
  10. Then add the chicken pieces you fried earlier. Cover and cook for 10 minutes on a low flame.
  11. After 10 minutes, if the chicken is still not cooked, add a 1/2 a cup water. Cover and cook for another 5 minutes.

You can have sweet n sour chicken with Chinese fried rice or noodles.
