What Extra Care Pregnant Women Need To Take On Lunar Eclipse Day & Why

By

The lunar eclipse on July 27, 2018, is said to be the longest eclipse of the century and it will last for four long hours. While the eclipse will start at 11:54 pm on July 27, it will end at 3:55 am on the morning of July 28.

Though the eclipse itself is considered unsuitable for performing auspicious things, these are avoided from the Sutak Kal itself. The Sutak Kal refers to the time that starts nine hours before a lunar eclipse or twenty four hours before the solar eclipse, and is considered highly inauspicious for certain things.

Lunar Eclipse: Points For Pregnant Women

For the July 27 eclipse, the Sutak Kal will begin from 2:00 pm on July 27, and will continue till the sunrise the next day. Special care has to be taken by pregnant women and a few points to be kept in mind are as below.

Pregnant women must avoid using sharp-edged objects such as knife, needle and scissors. In fact scriptures say that not just pregnant women, but her husband too must keep away from using these items. Using these items during eclipse can affect the body parts of the baby.

Do Not Consume Food During The Eclipse

The food cooked during the eclipse must not be consumed by pregnant women. This is because the harmful rays of the eclipse pollute the food, which again can impact the health of the child negatively.
