Diwali 2020: Why Should We Bring Salt On This Day
Diwali is the festival of lights. There are lights everywhere and in every corner. It is in fact difficult to distinguish between day and night during Diwali.
Light holds a very important significance during the festival. It symbolises the triumph of good over evil. It also denotes that no matter how much darkness prevails, it is always extinguished by light. This is the essence of the festival. The houses are lit up with decorative lamps and lightings.
Diyas light up even the darkest corner of a place. Loud crackers are burst as a part of the festivities. It is said that this lets the gods above know of our joyful and plentiful state. The lighting of the lamps is a way of thanking the gods for all the health, wealth and happiness we receive.
The light is also the only way that we get to see the beauty of the world around us. The lighting of diyas is said to light up the path of Goddess Lakshmi, who visits our homes on the night of Diwali.
Goddess Lakshmi is the most revered deity during the Diwali festival. She is the Goddess of the abundance of wealth and prosperity. She was born on the new moon day in the month of Karthik when all the gods were churning the ocean.
It is very important to please Goddess Lakshmi during Diwali if you want to receive her blessings. It is said that the goddess visits the homes which are the cleanest and brightly lit.
She will shower her devotees with lots of wealth and happiness. If you want to invite Goddess Lakshmi make sure you know which things to do and what to avoid.
Certain things done during Diwali is said to impress the Goddess. Salt, for example, is known as a form of Lakshmi. Bringing salt at home during Diwali is considered very auspicious. Read on to know more.
Salt- It Is A Form Of Lakshmi
You must have seen a lot of elders in your family and around bringing salt in the homes even when there is absolutely no need. But this is done to invite Goddess Lakshmi home.
This is because salt was used as a currency in olden days before money was invented. Therefore, bringing salt in the home on Diwali is said to invite the Goddess herself.
Taking An Oil Bath On A Diwali Morning
Taking a bath with oil in the early morning of Diwali is said to cleanse the body of all the dirt and sins and become pure before the arrival of Goddess Lakshmi.
Also, when Lord Krishna returned home after killing the Evil Narakasura, the women bathed him with oil and fragrant paste to get rid of the dirty blood stains.
It is said that whoever performs the oil bath ritual with full dedication, he is said to free himself from the fires of Hell.
Using KumKum
Kumkum or sindoor represents the blood in our body. By adorning the idol or image with it, we seek strength and vitality from the lord.
Applying Kumkum on goddess Lakshmi is important because she was a devoted wife of her Husband, Lord Vishnu. This is said to please her.
Also, Goddess Lakshmi is very impressed with married women who apply Kumkum on their foreheads. This symbolises their marital status and she blesses their husbands with long life.
Using Turmeric
Turmeric represents the vigor of the human body. Turmeric being a tuber, it contains positive frequencies of the earth.
Offering them to the deities, the worshipper is said to benefit positively from it. Turmeric represents fertility, luck and purity and also the sacral chakra.
Lighting Diyas In The Morning And Evening
Lighting diyas is a very important ritual during diwali. They are said to generate positive energy around them. They are also said to light up the path of Goddess Lakshmi to visit our homes.
Lighting them in the evening is also very important. It is said to eliminate ignorance in the form of darkness from our lives and fill our life with the light of knowledge.
Goddess Lakshmi is very pleased with lighting of diyas and visits the lighted homes to bless them with health, wealth and prosperity.
