Why To Perform A Shraddh Puja?
Shraddh is a puja through which the people pay homage to their ancestors through food and other rituals. One expresses their love and respect for their ancestors through this ritual. This is also known as the Pitr Paksha. According to some of the most popular Hindu beliefs, it is said that one who does not perform the Shraddh is sure to bear the consequences of it. People make several food preparations during Pitr-Paksha. They also feed some food to the cows and dogs. A small lamp is lit in the name of the ancestors during this time. Here are a few reasons why you should perform this Hindu ritual in the month of Ashwin.
Religious Significance- A Shraddh is one of the most important Hindu rituals. As per the Hindu beliefs if one performs the Shraddh then they are blessed by their ancestors with a long and healthy life, wealth, happiness, marital bliss etc. and at the same time if they fail to perform this Hindu ritual, then they have to face a lot of hurdles in their life. Performing this Hindu ritual is considered to be good as it will remove all the obstacles from your path.
Ancestral Misdeeds- As a person inherits the assets of his/her forefathers similarly they also inherit the curse of all the misdeeds that they have done. If these debts are not paid off, the person has to go through a lot of sufferings. In order to get rid of the ancestral sins one has to perform the Shraddh of his ancestors in the month of Ashwin.
A Tribute To The Ancestors- More than anything else a Shraddh is primarily about taking out some time to remember our loved ones. It becomes an occasion when you get to bring back to mind the memories of your kins who have passed away. This also becomes an event of family gathering and togetherness.
If Not- More than the benefits of performing this Hindu ritual what haunts us more is the question, "What if we do not perform the Shraddh?" According to the Hindu beliefs, if you fail to perform the puja then you get to see your ancestors in your dreams. This can be both good and bad. Is it not better to perform the puja to satisfy your ancestral souls?
Kalsarp Dosha- According to the Hindu beliefs, if a person has this dosha (faults) then you will face several problems related to money and fertility. Many perform a puja in order to evade the same. A Shraddh helps reduce Kalsarp Dosha to a great extent.
These are the reasons as to why you should perform a Shraddh.
