A Real Love Story: Never Say Goodbye…

We didn't have computer those days, so I had to go to cyber café to check emails. One day, I was getting bored and thought of entering a chat room (there was no Facebook then) and this is how I met Aakash. Aakash was a Businessmen from Delhi and I was doing my graduation in Mumbai. I thought I will just have a chat and leave, but the time went on and on, and I didn't know I would chat for so long with a stranger who doesn't even know me. Day by day the chat became interesting.

We had a long chat for almost 6 months without seeing each other or even exchanging numbers. He asked for my number and I gave. His voice was just wow! I fell for him then itself but couldn't say. Though I found him interesting, I didn't want to judge.

A Real Love Story: Never Say Goodbye…

I had my exams and I couldn't speak or text or even go to cyber for a month. We spoke only once that month, as he had called to ask how my exams went. After a long time, I called him and there was a curfew at his place. We couldn't speak properly. I was so scared on what happened. I was very concerned for him as the call didn't go and messages didn't deliver. When he reached home he messaged me saying he is safe. After this, we started speaking a lot. We started sharing anything and everything. Unknowingly, our friendship was turning to love, and we didn't even know.

We spoke and had chat for hours. I then sent him my picture and he sent his. After few days, he said he liked me and proposed. I was very happy, though confused. I was speechless and couldn't say a word then. But after few days I decided to meet him and say that I too feel the same for him.

He was shuttling from Delhi to Mumbai, and said he can meet me anytime. The day had finally come and we met in a very nice place, went for a movie and had a nice evening at a coffee shop. This was the most memorable and happiest moment in my life. It was time for us to leave and promised each other to meet again and he said goodbye for which I told him not to say goodbye since people who say goodbye never meet. I decided to accept his love on Valentine's day as it was nearing.

But he never called me back after our first meet. I never thought that, that goodbye will be our first and last goodbye. I tried calling him many times but he never picked the call. I waited for a month, mailed him and finally he replied back saying ‘sorry'. I never asked anything because I was very much hurt and didn't know how to react, so didn't reply back. He called me and said my silence is killing him, and then I broke down asking him why he never contacted me after our first meet. For which he never replied but just said sorry. With that I became mum for some time and said ‘bye and not goodbye'. He promised me that he will always be there for me as a friend.

Though we spoke to each other, I never had guts of asking or saying him about my love, as I didn't want to lose his friendship. But after five years, he confessed saying how foolish he was to back out. He said we were not mature enough then to accept things. Now that we both are working, mature enough to handle things, he is confident of anything. He spoke to his parents about me and I did too, and now we are hoping for a good future. This Valentine's Day is really very special to me as I am sharing this with my love. "This is for you my love, for coming back to me. I love you a lot. Yours & only Yours Anamika. And for all those who are in love, ‘Never Say Goodbye'." Happy Valentine's Day!
