A recent study claims that pregnant women who eat fish will be able to offer certain brain benefits to their offspring. As a part of this study, researchers observed more than 2000 women and their children.
The study was carried out over a span of 5 years and each person was monitored since the day of conception. The study claims that kids whose mothers consumed fish at least thrice a week displayed better brain function than kids whose mothers never ate fish.
Though omega 6 fatty acids are present in certain oils, omega 3 fatty acids are mainly found in fish. Also researchers say that a baby's brain develops during pregnancy, certain dietary deficiencies may affect its growth.
But still, fish can cause mercury poisoning if it is not consumed from healthy places. Though seafood is healthy for the brain, as fish gather toxins from their environments, care needs to be taken while consuming.
Though this study never came across a case where a pregnant woman or a baby got affected due to fish consumption, it would be wiser to consult a doctor to know about the right sources to obtain omega 3 fatty acids through diet.
