Getting your tubes tied is a casual language used by most women to refer to the process of tubal ligation. It is an almost permanent process of contraception that is used commonly by women. Like all other procedures, getting your tubes tied comes with its pros and cons. Cons

• It's Irreversible
  Do not count on getting your tubes opened again for a normal pregnancy. The reversal process is difficult and not alway successful.
• Hormonal Problems
  Many women have hormonal problems after they get their tubes tied. It cuts your progesterone levels by almost half which can lead to weight gain and menopause like symptoms. Their is lot of debate on whether or not getting your tubes tied causes an early menopause.
• Risk Of Cancer
  Any kind of scar tissue increases your risk of developing cancer. And in tubal ligation, you are depending on scar tissue to make you infertile.
• No Guarantee Of Safe Sex
  Now, just because you do not have to use contraceptives, doesn't mean you get protection against STDs like HIV.

In most cases, it is best to avoid getting your tubes tied after you have had 2 children and are over 30 years of age. Having this procedure at an young age can cause many difficulties both physical and emotional.
