Arthritis Prevalence Rising Among Women Than Men
The number of arthritis cases are on the rise among women compared to men. Check here for details.
A recent research conducted by SRL Diagnostics, a leading diagnostic chain has brought out this startling fact on arthritis. The report states that the prevalence of arthritis is rising among women than men in India.
The findings based laboratory tests showed that women had higher levels of abnormal ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation rate) at 52.07 percent than men.
In addition to this, the levels of rheumatoid factor (RF), was found to be at 13.08 percent, which is also higher in women than in men.
In the pan India data analysis, the abnormal ESR values were more commonly observed in women while the abnormal CRP values (59.34 percent) were more commonly seen in men.
Data from 6.4 million samples received for Arthritis (bone health) testing over the last 3.5 years since January 2014 at SRL Laboratories across India was considered for the study.
Experts suggests that taking care of the food that you eat is very important. Also one needs to keep a watch on the body weight. Excess body weight can lead to increasing risk for arthritis.
Regular exercise, even half an hour of walking or jogging everyday is a must to keep one fit and reduce the risk of arthritis.
Whenever you experience fatigue, joint pain along with swelling, redness or any stiffness, then you should not ignore. These are a few of the major symptoms of arthritis.

Turmeric:
Turmeric contains curcumin, which is considered as one of the best anti-inflammatory ingredients that helps in fighting inflammation and ease arthritis pain.
A pinch of turmeric can be added to your daily food, or one could also add a teaspoon of turmeric to a glass of warm milk, mix it well and then consume it before going to bed.
Garlic:
Garlic belongs to the allium family. This group of food contains compound called diallyl disulfide which helps prevent any cartilage damage, thus reduces the risk of arthritis as well.
Broccoli:
Vegetables, especially the cruciferous ones contains a compound called sulforaphane, which helps slow cartilage damage in joints. Adding broccoli to your diet in cooked form or raw in the form of salads help to reduce the risk of arthritis.
Fatty Fish:
Fishes that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids like salmon and tuna are good for your health. It helps fight inflammation and also reduces the risk of arthritis.
Fruits Rich In Vitamin C:
Fruits like kiwi, strawberries and pineapple are rich in vitamin C. The antioxidants contained in vitamin C rich fruits help slow the progression of arthritis. Adding vitamin C rich fruits in moderate amount in your daily diet helps prevent arthritis risk.
Nuts:
Rich in fibre and healthy fats, nuts like almonds and walnuts are also a good source of antioxidant and vitamin E. These nuts help to prevent inflammation and reduces the risk of arthritis.
Flaxseeds:
Flaxseeds contains anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acid. This helps to lower the risk of arthritis. You could sprinkle flaxseeds in your salads and cereals or mix it along with yogurt and fruits and consume it for best results.
