Holi Festivities Begin In Mathura
While enjoying the chilly winters, the people of North India look forward to the festival of Holi. Holi is a festival of colours that celebrated the onset of summers in the entire Northern belt.
Festivities related to Holi, commenced in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. Mathura is the city where lord Krishna had spend his growing years. Since Holi was played by Krishna with the gopis in Mathura, the city celebrates the festival in full glamour and beauty.
Every year Holi festivities that last for 40 days begin on Basant Panchami festival. The celebrations attract a large number of domestic and foreign tourists.
The people of Mathura were very happy as the celebrations began on Basant Panchami. The celebrations began by palying with colour with the deity.
Celebrated in the month of Phagun (February-March), Holi brings together people from all classes and age groups as they play with colours, distribute sweets and take out processions, dancing to the beats of drums in a melange of colours.
Holi will be celebrated on March 1 this year.
