Woody Allen Wins American Apparel Lawsuit

By Staff

Woody Allen
The gruesome legal battle between the clothing giant American Apparel and Woody Allen ended in favour for the latter. Woody Allen had sued the company for using his image for an advertisement without his permission. The image showed him in Manhattan in which he was dressed up as a rabbi.

American Apparel used woody Allen's image in one or two of their billboards. When the legal battle had started, they planned to bring up his personal life in its defence. However they had to agree for giving 5 million dollars in the out-of-court settlement to Woody Allen.

It seems the m are enough to discourage American Apparel or anyone else from ever trying such a thing again. Some brands calculatingly took a celebrity's name, likeness and image and used them publicly to promote their business. The fear of publicity may prevent some celebrities from taking an action too!
