How to Prevent Your Furniture From Fungus
While metal furniture may interest a few, most of us would usually go for wooden furniture owing to their various advantages over those of metal. At the same time, wooden furniture are said to have shorter life cycle than those made out of metal. One of the common reasons behind this is the occurrence of mould and mildew, which could corrode your furniture and can even cause health problems for you. You must have seen those tiny bubble-shaped ones formed upon your furniture sometime earlier too, hadn’t you?
Mildew (early phase of mould) or mould is nothing but a sort of microscopic organisms (fungus) that is caused by presence of moisture within the pores of your furniture. It could occur when you were simply wiping your table with a wet cloth or had dropped some liquid over it by mistake, thereby leaving some of it to get soaked by its wooden material.
Over the period of time, this fungus continues to grow and develops into a more dangerous substance, which could even float into air while you are brushing your furniture, and could cause serious health issues such as breathing problems, headache, throat irritation, sinus congestion, and many more.
So how is it that you can safeguard your furniture and also your health from fungus? It won’t get fixed on its own with time. At the same time, you could also have your family lend you a helping hand, say once in a couple of months in carrying out the entire procedure of keeping a check at levels of fungi formation. You will also have to make certain efforts and be cautious about not letting it spread even further.
Here’s what you need to do:Keep your room/bathroom/kitchen well-ventilated: Always allow your rooms where you have kept your furniture to have proper ventilation. Fungus and mould grow in the humid atmosphere where there is less flow of air, and so by proper ventilation, you will be taking away their source of growth.
Keep your surroundings clean: Fungus can develop not only inside your home, but also can fly in from outside. You sure don’t need to clean the street, but you can at least keep your lawn area and your door area clean at all times.
Never permit moisture to stabilise: If you have dropped something, make sure to clean it up then and there so that it does not leave a trail and permit the formation of mildew over your furniture.
Prepare yourself for cleanup: If your furniture has attained mould, assemble things such as pair of rubber gloves, vacuum cleaner, brushes, disinfectant, detergent and mop to clean up the fungus.
Clean up loose spores of mould: Use a dry cloth to clean up loose spores from your furniture and put the powder so collected in a bag or box and throw it away with care, so that its particles don’t flow out again. If you have done it properly, your furniture will most likely not attain it again.
