8 Steps To Grow Medicinal Ginseng Root
You have heard of the Chinese medicinal herb ginseng several times in context of health. Ginseng tea has been declared as one of the healthiest beverages available to us. So this ancient medicinal herb is now a wellness phenomenon to which health experts toast. The only trouble is that we usually don't know where to find ginseng. The packed ginseng available in supermarkets is certainly not trust worthy.
So, the best option for you is to grow ginseng at home. You will be surprised to know that it is astonishingly easy to grow ginseng at home. You can even grow it indoors. Follow these steps to grow ginseng in your own kitchen garden.
Steps To Grow Ginseng Root
- The most important aspect of planting the ginseng root are the seeds. The ginseng seeds that you use need to be stratified. You can either buy stratified seeds or stratify them yourself.
- To stratify the ginseng seeds place them in between 2 equal layers of sand. Cover the container with a cloth and refrigerate the seeds for 6 months.
- After 6 to 8 months are over, remove the seeds from refrigerator. Some of the seeds may have decayed; discard them. The seeds that have grown in size and started sprouting will be best for planting.
- Ginseng can be grown as a potted plant. Take 8 inches of well draining soil in a pot. Plant the seeds 3 inches under the soil.
- Water the ginseng regularly for 6 months because that is the time it will sprout and grow into a plant.
- Ginseng plants like moderate sunshine. So keep them in indirect sunlight every day.
- You might notice some fresh berries of ginseng a year after planting the seeds. You can harvest these berries immediately.
- The healthiest part of the ginseng is the root. It takes about 8 years for the root to mature. But you can use the leaves and fruits as and when they appear.
These simple steps can help you grow this Chinese medicinal herb in your garden easily. All you have to do is follow the steps verbatim.
