Scientifically termed as Yucca filamentosa, yucca is a genus of perennial shrubs and trees belonging to the family Asparagaceae. Yucca is one amongst the 40 to 50 different species belonging to the family. The shrub is commonly mistaken with yuca or yuca root, which belongs to the genus Euphorbiaceae and has the common name of cassava  .
