1. Surya Namaskar
This is one of the most well-known and widely practiced asanas, which translates to salutation to the sun. It comprises of a series of 12 yoga poses that focus on various parts of the body.
As per experts, Surya Namaskar helps in keeping your body active, as it helps in exercising all possible parts of the body. It also strengthens your skeletal system and aids in reducing stress and anxiety.
This is called the warrior pose. For this asana, you first need to go to the mountain posture, followed by stretching one of your legs back and with the other leg going into a lunge-like position with your knee kept at a 90-degree position. Keep your hands stretched right above your head.
This posture tones your legs, thighs, back and arms. It also helps in improving blood circulation.
Start this asana with a wide-legged position and turn your right foot out. Now, keep your arms stretched out wide open. Slowly, push the right side of your waistline over your right leg.
Then, slowly go down, facing downwards with a flat back. Keep your right palm on the ground. Repeat this with the other side.
This asana might be a little difficult for beginners but it gives excellent results. It is great for your spine, back, arms, shoulders, and wrists and also fortifies your muscles.
Sit with your legs stretched in front of you. Put your hands behind your hips pointing towards your feet. Now, point your feet and prepare your body to rise up. Raise your body from the tail bone and try pulling your head back as well.
Asanas For Weight Gain
The following asanas will help you gain weight if you have always been thin and sickly in life.
This is also called the "cobra pose" asana. It works on the digestive system, thereby improving appetite, regulating metabolism and also removing blockages.
To do this asana, lie flat on your stomach, with your legs stretched out. Your feet should be facing down and place your elbows by your side. Then, lift your chest, placing the body weight on the elbows. Inhale deeply and exhale strongly.
Vajrasana is also called the diamond pose or thunderbolt pose. This asana is the only asana that can be performed after a meal. It works on the digestive system and helps to keep your metabolism in check.
To perform this asana, keep your thighs on your calf muscles, as you sit flat on the floor. Focus and breathe.
This asana is called the wind relieving posture. It works well on the digestive system and regulates it.
To perform this asana, lie flat on the floor with your back on the ground. Fold your knees and hug them. Lift your head off the floor and bring your nose in between the knees. Hold this posture for a few seconds as you breathe deeply and release.
Shavasana is also called the Corpse posture. It completely relaxes the body and helps it to reap the benefits of the workout.
This is a simple posture. Lie down on your back, with your palms resting beside you. Face upwards, make yourself comfortable. Close your eyes and meditate.
In a nutshell, yoga can help either ways. You can practice yoga either to gain weight or to reduce weight and keep your body toned up.
